That is so, so awful. I can't believe you would have to wait that long for non-identifying information. That's ridiculous. And medical records are important.
I'm adopted too. But up here we have access to information including our names at birth.
I met my birth mom when I was 21 and I'm so glad I did. It answered a huge number of questions about my life and background.
I hope they change the way they do things and release this sort of information to you so your not in the dark.
(hugs!!)

Wow. That's insane that you haven't been able to get that information yet.

I'm sorry for all the hoops they're making you jump through, and for the stress it's causing you. Hopefully you'll get the information you want very soon.

DNA is such a critical factor in so many things that this information should be mandatory to be released at the adoption! It's absolutely ABSURD that you are having to go through such a fight to get information that you so rightfully deserve! I would get it if you were trying to find out who they are, where they live, etc, but you are trying to find out something that sould be your right to have! I am so sorry you are having such a struggle with it! This may sound dumb, but have you tried one of the television news "investigative" reporters? I ask because I contacted them last week about something else (the mortgage mess and how my lender has been fraudulent with me) and they called me back and I have already seen action from my mortgage company for the positive. Totally off the subject, but my point is that maybe they can help you get the information you deserve! Good luck to you!

I hope you get the things you need. At this point in time 32yo I am debating what I want to know about my biological parents if anything. Medical records have always been an issue because of ongoing medical concerns. Now my boys have issues and I wonder what else lies below the surface. Right now I'm still too scared to even apply for just my medical records. Good luck. I hope you find a way.

Ali -
You are SO right and it is SO wrong that you haven't received this information. My two older girls were adopted at birth and placed prior to leaving the hospital. Fortunately for us we were able to have conversations with their birth families which allowed us to not only get this information but also allowed us to get pictures and letters for them. We've shared the pictures but are holding the letters until they are 18.

I use to be active in several adoption communities and still have friends that might be able to maybe at least give you some additional leads on ways to obtain this information. I think its ridiculous that you have had to wait this long.

Thank you for writing this post - I hope you get the information that you so richly deserve soon.
