Packing Schmacking

I am in the process of packing our family of 4 for a week at the beach. You can hate on me all you want…but I NEEDZ HALP! I feel like I am going to forget something vital for the boys. How the hell do you pack a not quite 2 year old and a 5 month old for a week away…in a small SUV no less. Crapola.

So I have eleventy billion lists spread around me house so I can add things right as I think of them and I think I have all the basics. You know, bottles, formula, cups, diapers, wipes…all the good stuff.

I want to hear what YOU would pack for your kids for a week at the beach! I really need some idea for entertainment that doesn’t take up a ton of room..especially for Jimmy.

If you guys do a good job and save me some room…I’ll take one of you in my suitcase!

AND GO

I’m sure you have the essentials like sunscreen, lotion, chapstick (with spf – for the kiddies!), a general first aid kit for anything you think you might need: thermometer, tylenol, neosporin, band-aids. Also bug spray? Maybe one of those little pens that you use if the bite is especially itchy.

    Good luck and HAVE FUN!!!!

Hey! Enjoy your time at the beach. We are currently there. So this is what I did… I bought small bottles of everything. Shampoo, conditioner, mouthwash, soap, baby soap, baby shampoo… you get the idea. They take up WAY less space than the others. I bought spray on sunscreen for Quinton. It works well but I also brought the reg. lotion just to be safe. Car ride down… make sure you have snacks. I’m not sure how long your trip is… (we traveled 20 hours to FL.) so we had mad snacks. Gerber puffs, water, caprisun, crackers. Don’t worry about the mess… cause the car will get worse once the sand gets in there. Mini pillows to rest little and big heads. Like the pp said… tylenol, band-aids, neosporin. Pack as much as you can way before hand. like undies, shirts, shorts or do one huge load before going. Sand toys are a must but you can always buy them when you get there. Don’t forget regular toys for the hotel that you are staying at. most importantly… if you do forget something. It’s not the end of the world. There are Walmarts everywhere! lol. HAVE FUN!!!!

I know it’s not the beach, but when we’ve gone camping with V, here’s a few of our essentials:

    - Pack ‘n Play playpen. Don’t leave home without it.
    - mosquito netting that fits over said playpen for naptime.
    - Sunscreen. Lot of different kinds. And after sun cream too, just in case.
    - Tylenol and some sort of antihistamine lotion for bug bites.
    - If you have a portable high chair for eating at picnic tables, bring it.
    - Bring more towels and blankets then you think you’ll need
    - Don’t forget swim diapers
    - Freeze juice boxes and use them as ice packs in the cooler. As they thaw, give them to the kids. This works with milk too.
    - Sand toys (buckets and shovels) for each of the boys

One thing I do when I’m packing for camping too, is pack everything in Rubbermaids and tape a page protector sheet on top of the lid. Each bin and lid is numbered. Then I have a list of the contents of each bin and slide it into the page protector. That way, when I’m looking for something, I don’t need to go digging everywhere. I just scan the list to figure out what bin it’s in.
